Junaluska Catapult Day

Fifth Grade Students from Junaluska Elementary School enjoyed Catapult Day at the school last month. Each student in two of the fifth grade classes was responsible for the design and construction of a catapult that could hoist a small object – a piece of candy – through the air as far as possible. With the help of parent volunteers and the fifth grade teachers, Mrs. Allen & Mrs. Massie each student demonstrated their catapult while a team of students helped to measure distances, calculate area, and determine weight of the objects. All the data was gathered and entered into a spreadsheet. The students were able to compare their calculations and further discuss their findings. Alot of fun was had by the students and plenty of learning as well!
