Riverbend had a great turn out for their Title 1 Read to Achieve Parent Night on Thursday, November 5. Mrs. Brubaker, Title 1 Reading Specialist, organized a fun, informational night for parents to learn about North Carolina’s new Read to Achieve law, as well as participate in entertaining reading activities. When families first arrived they enjoyed pizza, drink and a cookie. After that, they traveled among four different stations. The four stations included a Reader’s Theater (performed by Riverbend teachers), a Book Walk (where every student walked away with a brand new book), a Scavenger Hunt (where students and parents looked in books for given clues), and an exciting read-aloud (by media specialist, Nikki Barker). The read-aloud was for the children only, while their parents watched a short informational video about NC’s Read to Achieve law. Parents were also shown Riverbend’s website that now has an entire page devoted to Read to Achieve, with links and resources for families to use.
