Tuscola High School Campus Evacuation – Update – 4:30 p.m.

Haywood County, North Carolina – October 20, 2014

Shortly before dismissal on Monday, October 20, 2014 school officials became aware of a note written in a restroom stall.  The poorly written note indicated there was a bomb on campus.

Dismissal procedures were implemented and law enforcement was notified.  The students remaining on campus were evacuated to the track area.  Parents may pick up students at that location.

Dr. Anne Garrett, superintendent said, “The school responded quickly by notifying law enforcement and the district office.  We want to thank students, staff and the Sheriff’s Department for their support, cooperation and rapid response.”

Parents were sent a rapid notification message regarding the evacuation.

The campus was cleared at 4:30 p.m.  The normal operating schedule has been reinstated.  Students, staff and parents may return to campus as appropriate or necessary.
