On the evening of Thursday, October 30, Tuscola High School officials and local law enforcement received separate and multiple tips that a student had taken a gun to campus and was planning to bring it to campus again on Friday, October 31st.

School officials assisted the Waynesville Police Department with investigative activities through the evening.  The school and Waynesville Police Department intervened before school at an off campus location on the morning of Friday, October 31st.  The alleged gun turned out to be an airsoft pistol.

School officials and law enforcement communicated with the parent.  The school will conduct a complete investigation and review appropriate policies before making final discipline decisions.

Dr. Anne Garrett, superintendent said, “We appreciate the good work of local law enforcement and our Tuscola administrative staff to keep our students and staff safe in this situation.  We also appreciate the high level of cooperation that we have with our local law enforcement and safety officials.”

Dr. Bill Nolte, associate superintendent said, “The safest schools are those in which the community feels comfortable talking to law enforcement and school officials about safety and security.  We are so thankful that our people talk to us and law enforcement in situations like this.”
