To celebrate reading and the many wonderful books that have been written for children over the years, the staff at Hazelwood Elementary School celebrated Book-a-Ween on Halloween.

All teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters and then read books to three classrooms throughout the school. Some of the characters and books represented were  Max from “Where the Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak; Olivia from the Olivia series by Ian Falconer; the Man With the Yellow Hat from “Curious George” by Margret and H.A. Rey;  Skippyjon Jones; Amelia Bedelia; and Camilla from “The Bad Case of Stripes” by David Shannon.

Principal Susan Savage dressed up as Harold from “Harold and the Purple Crayon” by Crockett Johnson, and Assistant Principal Nicole Revis dressed up as Grace from “Grace for President” by Kelly DiPucchio.

All teachers had a great time reading books aloud to a variety of classrooms around the school; not to just their own class.  Because Hazelwood Elementary is a Leader in Me school, this was also a great way to practice Habit #7 – Sharpen the Saw, where students and teachers remember to laugh, be creative, and come together to have fun.
