On Tuesday January 6, 2015, Clyde Elementary School held a kickoff for their Science Olympiad for students in grades grades 3 – 5. Students at Clyde will participate in after school activities focused on science experimentation and STEM. Just a few of the activities students will engage in will include building bottle rockets, making towers of pasta, and studying rocks and minerals. All of these activities will help students develop an understanding of engineering and math and learn about the many ways science affects our daily lives. Addtionally, all of this work will prepare students for a regional competition to be held at Lenoir Rhyne University on March 7, 2015, in which they will compete with teams from other schools in a variety of STEM related events. Amanda Wells, Alison Lipham, Ashley Pace, and Karley Wells are serving as the coaches for this exceptional learning opportunity being provided for Clyde’s 3 – 5 grade students.
