On Saturday, January 31st over 120 Plungers participated in the 3rd annual Polar Plunge sponsored by the Haywood Waterways Association at Lake Junaluska. The Plungers raised over $24,000 for Kids in the Creek and Youth Education. Haywood County teachers from 5 schools raised over $2500 for the cause.

Bethel plungers Amy Harrington, Shawn Sampson, Michelle Knapik, Paula Bolado, Ron Hundley, Sally Hundley raised almost $700

Pisgah plungers Greg Tucker and Emily Burrus raised over $130

Tuscola plungers Randi Neff, Layna Cope, Eric Melville, Maggie Melville raised almost $600

Community Learning Center plungers Erman D’Alesandro and Mark Ethridge raised $200

Waynesville Middle School plungers Laura Turner, Wendy Johnson , Kiffin Queen ,William Yates,Bethany Coleman, Robert Sutton ,Jennifer Mehaffey, Danyiele Hyatt, Casey Roberts, Casey Stamey, Susie Thomas, Rebecca Reeves, Phyllis Kapsalis , Karen Rigdon, Vienna Lopresti, Kelsey Shepherd, Matthew Clements raised over $800

Canton Middle School Raised $100

Each fall Haywood Waterways sponsors Kids in the Creek. The purpose is to expose all 8th grade students to hands-on activities that raise awareness of the importance of clean water and the issues that could degrade water quality.
