Jonathan Valley Elementary School partnered with the Science House to host their annual STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) night on Tuesday, April 21st. Before the event began, families were provided pizza from the Rendevous Restaurant of Maggie Valley. As the night ended, families enjoyed a dirt cake dessert. They were able to take their creations of catapults home and were encouraged to continue building and designing using everyday materials!

The Science House motivates and helps to prepare K-12 students to study and work in STEM fields. Dr. Teresa Cowen encouraged parents to help their children develop a love of Science by participating in hands-on learning activities.

Students and their parents worked together to design and create catapults from popsicle sticks, pencils and rubber bands. The catapults were put to the test on practice sites before they were taken to the final launch site. The catapults hurled marshmallow boulders down the hallway to reveal the best design.
