Tuesday, January 26, 2016 has been declared a “closed” or “no day” for all students and all staff.  Weather permitting, school will be made up on Saturday, January 30, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  Breakfast and lunch will be served.  The school district understands that some families and some schools have scheduled activities on Saturday.  Previously authorized school organization activities will be coded like a field trip on Saturday.  If parents feel students cannot attend on Saturday, the school district will make every reasonable effort to code the absence as “excused”.

Since Saturday make up days are fairly rare, we want to provide staff with some important reminders.  For contract, payroll and Saturday supervision purposes, employees should do the following:

  • Ten-month employees (certified, licensed, classified and hourly) should NOT work on the “no day” (unless directed to do so by his or her principal/director).  These employees need to work on the Saturday make up day.
  • Eleven and twelve month employees will NOT work on the “no day” and plan to work on the designated Saturday make up day.
  • If you are an eleven or twelve month employee who is also a classified or hourly paid employee, you should NOT work six days in one week unless you are specifically directed to do so by your principal or supervisor.
  • As always principals and other administrators may work as often as needed to address critical matters.

Staff should check with their principal, director or supervisor if they have questions that are not answered in this communication.

Haywood County Schools averages just over 8 missed student days each year due to inclement weather.  The school calendar will be adjusted and posted on the school district website when missed days have ended from this winter weather event.
