College Quilt

Pisgah High School senior Caitlin Worley put her skills to work: As an Advanced Studies CTE (Career Technical Education) student, she was expected to create and produce a capstone project that would showcase what she had learned in Ms. Adriane Howard’s Apparel Development program. Caitlin loves making quilts, so when the Pisgah Counseling Center approached her about making a college t-shirt quilt, she enthusiastically agreed. College admissions offices donated t-shirts; Caitlin researched t-shirt quilts (which are uniquely challenging), designed her plan, and obtained all other needed materials. Caitlin presented the quilt to the Counseling Center just in time for College Application Week–when the Counseling Center hosted 2-year and 4-year college admissions representatives for Pisgah High school students during lunches and assisted over 90 seniors submit college applications. Caitlin’s quilt is now a centerpiece of the Counseling Center. Advanced Studies CTE opportunities are available to high school seniors who have completed all other courses within a specific CTE program with As in the courses and on the state CTE post assessments.
