Dear Central Elementary School Parents,

This letter is to keep you informed about transition steps from Central Elementary School to other schools in the system. Over the last few weeks we met several times with Mrs. Yates and the principals from Hazelwood Elementary and Junaluska Elementary to assure a smooth transition for children. Hazelwood Elementary and Junaluska Elementary are planning times for children and families to visit. We want you to know that your children will be welcomed and supported in their new schools.

Last night the Board of Education approved a new boundary line between the Hazelwood and Junaluska districts. A map showing the new boundary is on the back of this letter. The new boundary line is Russ Avenue from Hwy. 23/74 to the intersection of Walnut Street, Walnut Street between Russ Avenue and North Main Street,North Main Street from Walnut Street to South Main Street, and South Main Street until it reaches the existing Hazelwood Elementary School district line.

Students who live north or west of the new boundary line will have an initial assignment to Hazelwood Elementary. Students who live south or east of the new boundary line will have an initial assignment to Junaluska Elementary. Students who live outside the new Hazelwood and Junaluska districts will have an initial assignment to the school where the family resides.

If the initial assignment causes a work-related childcare hardship, parents may choose to request a student transfer to a different school under the School Assignment Policy (4150). A copy of the reassignment request form is available at each school. If you have questions or concerns about the district in which you live, you may contact Todd Trantham, Director of Transportation at 456-2421.

Sincerely,
Anne G. Garrett, Ed. D.
Superintendent
