Junior Betas at BMS are students who wish to become strong leaders. Whether they become student leaders when they go to high school and then on to college, spiritual leaders in their church, or strong, confident adults when they enter the job force; Beta club is just the beginning. This year in BETA club, students helped with numerous community service projects. Students were involved with campus clean up, bell ringing for the Salvation Army in Waynesville, volunteering at the Community Kitchen in Canton, and providing gifts and service to our local veterans. The BMS Betas also raised money to buy books for a library in Ecuador.

On February 1st, 2016, the Jr. Beta Club at Bethel Middle School journeyed to Greensboro, NC to attend the State Beta Club Convention.  In order for Beta to be eligible for the convention, students needed to be involved in at least two projects, but most of the members were involved in every single project and we are continuing to volunteer the rest of the year.

Our convention trip was a success, and this year we received, from the National Beta Club, the GOLD Key Award for creating opportunities for student leadership.  At convention, each student participated in an event; students really put in a lot of hours preparing projects, performances, and songs. Some groups received high scores, based on the originality of the project(s) and the pictures and stories that represented the club well in terms of academics, talent, leadership, or service work.

These BMS Jr. Betas competed in arts and academic competitions at this year’s state convention:
