In 2005, Down Syndrome International (DSI) designated March 21st as World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD).  Then in 2013, DSI began the Lots of Socks campaign to get people talking about Down Syndrome and WDSD.  The goal of Lots of Socks is to wear 3 socks for the three chromosomes on chromosome number 21 or as many colorful or mismatched socks so that people stop and ask questions.

This day had even more significance for Bethel Middle and participation was evident as one walked the halls and campus of the school. The students and staff at Bethel Middle School donned their wild, colorful, or mismatched socks and Superman/super hero socks and shirts to pay tribute to one of their very own.  Grayson Holland, one of our 7th grade students at BMS, proves daily that living with Down Syndrome in no way prohibits him from having a full, happy, and productive life.  He is an inspiration to all, and he busts the stereotypes and disproves the myths associated with Down Syndrome.

Just like his hero, Superman, Grayson saves the day of his fellow students and teachers with his jokes, smiles, eyebrow waves, hearty laughter, and amazing dance moves.  Bethel Middle School is blessed in many ways, and having Grayson demonstrate living life to the fullest is one of its greatest blessings.  Wearing lots of socks and superhero gear was only a small gesture, but we hope Grayson felt the same happiness and pride he brings to us every day!
