UPDATE:  This afternoon, an individual in the North Canton community was legally engaged in target practice near the school.  The school was placed on lockdown as a precaution and local law enforcement was notified.  The campus was secured and cleared.  Parents of students in the afterschool program were notified and are now able to come onto campus to pick up all remaining students.

We are thankful for the rapid response of Canton Police Department and the other law enforcement agencies involved.  The campus is in the process of returning to a normal schedule, and the principal will notify parents about the schedule for tonight’s program at the school.

4:22:  At approximately 4:00 this afternoon, school officials at North Canton Elementary School notified law enforcement that individuals were seen entering the rear of the school building. The campus has been secured and law enforcement officers are in the process of clearing the building. More information will be forthcoming.
