On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, Haywood County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay schedule.  The recent winter weather and related school closings caused changes in the school schedule.  This is complicated by end-of-semester testing at the high schools and the Martin Luther King Holiday scheduled early next week.

State law requires that high school semester testing occur during the last five school days of the semester.  With this in mind, the following schedule will be used to transition between the first and second semesters:

  • Wednesday, January 11 will be a two-hour delay schedule.  This will also be the first day of semester testing for high schools.
  • Thursday, January 12 will be a regularly scheduled school day.  This will be the second day of semester testing for high schools.
  • Friday, January 13 will be a regularly scheduled school day.  This will be the third day of semester testing for high schools.
  • Monday, January 16 schools will be closed for the Martin Luther King Holiday.
  • Tuesday, January 17 will be a regularly scheduled school day.  This will be the fourth day of semester testing for high schools.
  • Wednesday, January 18 will be a regularly scheduled school day.  This will be the fifth day of testing for high schools.  This day is used to give make-up tests and for extended testing sessions.
  • Thursday, January 19 schools will be closed for the teacher workday between semesters.  This day is used to score End-of-Course tests and make necessary changes to course assignments before the second semester begins.
  • Friday, January 20 will be a regularly scheduled school day.  This will be the first day of the second semester.
