At approximately 11:30, Waynesville Middle School and Haywood County Schools officials were notified that an adult male was using a videotaping device in the boys’ locker room at the Waynesville Recreation Center.  Some sixth grade male students were in the locker room at the time of the alleged videotaping.  The allegation is limited to male students at Waynesville Middle School who were in the Recreation Center locker room at the time of the incident.

Officials from the Waynesville Recreation Center, the Waynesville Police Department and Haywood County Schools are working cooperatively to investigate the matter and determine the actual events that occurred in conjunction with the allegation.

“At this point, the investigation is in the early stages.  The alleged perpetrator is cooperating with law enforcement.  Procedures are taking place to retrieve the alleged videotape” said, Dr. Bill Nolte Associate Superintendent.

“We appreciate the quick reporting of this alleged event by Waynesville Middle School Students and staff and the rapid response from Waynesville Recreation and the Waynesville Police Department said, Dr. Anne Garrett, Superintendent.  “At this time we are following the situation closely. “

We are sharing this information so parents will know about the alleged videotaping.  The school will directly notify the parents of any students who were actually recorded on video when that is determined.  We ask the parents of 6th grade boys to contact Principal Trevor Putnam if you have additional information or questions.  We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously.  We will respond appropriately depending on the findings of the investigation.
