It is that time of year again…the Pisgah vs. Tuscola rivalry game is here!

For 6 years in a row Pisgah Nation has dominated the county rivalry.  Will 2019 make 7 in a row?  On Friday night, September 6 when the Black Bears make the short trek across the mountain to Waynesville, we will see if the Nation can hold the title.

For over 50 years, people of all ages look forward to the big rivalry game. The week of the game, excitement builds with each passing day.

The cheerleaders are geared up selling over 1200 rivalry spirit shirts and planning the pep rally.  Pisgah High students and staff are dressing up for school spirit days and playing music over the intercom.  The town of Canton and surrounding communities are decorated with the school colors, red and black everywhere. Local businesses proudly display Pisgah memorabilia adding excitement at every turn, and elementary and middle school students have spirit week along with the high school.  Social media is a buzz with game predictions and snide comments.

Pisgah High School spirit runs way deeper than just the hallways.

The cheerleaders organize Spirit Week to encourage all students to get involved and learn about school traditions. At the Pep Rally, the cheerleaders and the marching band give it their all to pump up the student body and the football team.

On game night, the feeling is indescribable when you look up into the stands seeing a sea of red or when the game ball is delivered by the black bear mascot in a helicopter or by paratroopers.  Only at PHS will you see the greatest show. Standing on the cheer podium or the sidelines at THS in front of over 10,000 people is an experience that we will never forget. Pisgah High Alumni football players, cheerleaders, and marching band members still reminisce about the intense games when they were on the field.

On this one night we are celebrities in our small mill town. We have big hearts that beam with pride. The greatest feeling ever is knowing we have an entire nation supporting us…it is The Pisgah Nation!
