Haywood County Schools SUN Meals To-Go 

Register today by completing the Summer Meal Kit Order Form

Haywood County Schools (HCS) remains committed to supporting children’s health and learning during the summer. This summer, HCS School Nutrition Services will provide FREE meal kits to children and teens ages 18 and under. This program is offered through the USDA SUN Meals To-Go initiative and is available in designated rural areas.  Each meal pack includes seven days of breakfast and lunch (including milk), and families may receive one kit per eligible child. To participate, households must complete the Summer Meal Kit Order Form no later than Friday, May 15, 2026

When and where are meal packs distributed?  Meal packs will be distributed curbside on Mondays from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Tuscola High  School, located at 564 Tuscola School Road, Waynesville. Distribution will begin on Monday, June 8, and continue through Monday, August 3, 2026.  Disclaimer – Households should be able to pick up a box of meals, which may weigh approximately 15 lbs. or more, and have adequate storage for cold/frozen items. 

Who can receive free summer meal kits?  Children and teens, ages 18 and younger are eligible to receive these meals.  Meals are also available to persons with disabilities, over age 18, who are still enrolled in a public-school program.  Children do not have to be enrolled in Haywood County Schools to qualify.  Children do not need to be present at pickup. However, the parent or guardian listed on the pre-order form must be the individual who picks up the meal packs. Additional details are available on the HCS School Nutrition website at https://www.haywood.k12.nc.us/school-nutrition/

Students who attend a Haywood County Elementary School-sponsored summer camp cannot participate in Sun Meals To-Go because they receive Sun Meals as part of the summer program.

Students attending Read to Achieve camps may pick up meals beginning the week of July 6th.  

Does my child have to qualify for free/reduced meals to receive Summer Meals To-Go?  No, children do not have to qualify or attend HCS to qualify for these meal kits.Parents/guardians are required to complete the Summer Meal Kit Order form by the designated date in order to receive these meals this summer. 

What is included in the Meal Pack?  Breakfast and Lunch meals for 7 days for each registered child.  Formula and baby food are not provided.  Menus will rotate on a 2 week cycle, which means you will receive the same meals twice per month.
