Three Haywood County Schools participated in the Regional N.C. Science Olympiad at UNCA on Saturday, February 28th. Students from Tuscola High School, Bethel Middle School, and Waynesville Middle school competed against 15 middle school and 15 high school teams from across the region.

Science Olympiad is a team competition in which students compete in events pertaining to various scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Over 6,700 teams from throughout the U.S. compete each year.

Each team competed in 18 “challenges” such as Duct Tape Challenge, Disease Detectives, Crimebusters, Elastic Launched Glider, Air Trajectory, Wheeled Vehicle, and Bottle Rockets. Bethel Middle School received medals for 4th place in “Write It, Do It”, and 5th place in “Wheeled Vehicle”.
