global-connections

Pisgah High School teacher, Emily Burrus, shared information about “Carolina Navigators” during Haywood County School’s monthly Global Connections meetings. Caroline Bethea-Brown served as a model for clothing worn in Burkina Faso. Teachers also participated in a “Culture Party” to learn how people from other cultures perceive and respond to different situations.

Carolina Navigators is a service-learning program at the Center for Global Initiatives at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which provides free global education resources to educators and students, from kindergarten to college, across North Carolina. The program enriches students through engaged global learning.  Students and educators benefit from virtual speakers who provide free culture kits form 134 countries, shipped free through a FedEx grant.

HCS’ Global Connections meets on the first Tuesday of each month. The purpose of these meetings is to provide resources that will enable teachers to develop 21st century skills and help us to become more globally connected by bringing the world to Haywood County students. These meetings are open and applicable to all teachers grades Pre-K-12.
