Seventh grade students recently participated in ESTEAM at Southwestern Community College, with 8 of the other western most school districts. ESTEAM represents Entrepreneurship, Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics with the purpose of building confidence today for the STEM careers of tomorrow. ESTEAM is sponsored by the NC State Science House. During this day of fun, hands-on activities, 7th grade students from all three middle schools learned about germs and microbes, how to extract DNA from a strawberry, sound and light waves, and how to build a hovercraft. ESTEAM connects students with real-life professionals from real-life ESTEAM fields like the NC State Science House and the North Carolina Biotechnology Center.
