book-a-ween-2016-005

To celebrate reading and the many wonderful books that have been written for children over the years, the staff at Hazelwood Elementary celebrated Book-a-Ween this past October 31st!  All teachers dressed up as their favorite book characters and then read their books to three classrooms throughout the school. Some of the characters and books represented were:  Pete the Cat from Pete the Cat and his four groovy buttons by Eric Litwin, Elizabeth from The Paper bag Princess by Robert Munsch, another Elizabeth from the Clifford book series by Norman Bridwell, and even Cinderella made an appearance. 5th grade teachers came together and dressed up as characters from Dr. Seuss books as well. Our principal, Wendy Rogers, dressed up as the veterinarian from the Caldecott-winning book Finding Winnie by Lindsay Mattick, and our Assistant Principal, Jill Mann, dressed up as the ladybug from Eric Carle’s The Grouchy Ladybug.

All teachers had a great time reading their book aloud to a variety of classrooms around the school; not to just their own class.  Because Hazelwood Elementary is a Leader in Me school, this was also a great way to practice Habit #7 – Sharpen the Saw where we remember to laugh, be creative, and come together as a staff to have fun.
