Students, teachers, staff and administrators helped make this years Polar Plunge a huge success by raising over $2800 for Haywood Waterways and the Kids in the Creek program. Each year every 8th grade student has an opportunity to get into the water at the Canton Recreation Park and spend the day learning about water quality, fish, insects and how we have an impact. Professionals and Government Agencies provide hands-on learning opportunities over a three day period each fall. The schools and teams raising the most money this year were:

1st place Hazelwood Elementary- Clay Holling, Ace Rogers, and Scarlett Strickland, Jennifer Holling, Amy Baker, Carol Clarke, Kate Proctor, Casey Conard, and Jill Mann.

2nd place Canton Middle School-Mike Faust and Amy Tiller

3rd place Jonathan Valley Elementary- Lexie Rae Underwood

4th place Haywood Community Learning Center –Erman D’Alesandro , Brookley Nicholson, Karen McCracken, Leslie Mowitt

Tammy Little and Linda Estes plunged for Waynesville Middle School and Dustin Keyes and Lindsay Costner dove in for Bethel Middle School

Layna Cope and her National Honor Society students from Tuscola High School raised a significant amount of money and helped work the event. Pisgah High School and Junaluska Elementary also raised money. This year over $30,000 was raised. For more information visit haywoodwaterways.org
