Mary Faulk is an accomplished teacher at Jonathan Valley Elementary School.  Earlier this year she started attending Global Connections meetings and participating in Global Read Aloud and World Read Aloud projects.  “Ms. Faulk is a fantastic teacher.  I have no doubt that she will use her experiences in Germany to share ideas and information with teachers at Jonathan Valley and across Haywood County Schools,” said Heather Hollingsworth, principal at Jonathan Valley.

Ms. Faulk’s travel expenses to Germany are paid through the James G.K. McClure Award for teacher participation in Go Global NC.  Germany was selected because it has one of the world’s strongest economies and offers an innovative research and education landscape.  The program is designed to help teachers gain a better understanding of technological innovation and renewable energy practices in Germany.  Participants will also have the opportunity to collaborate with other teachers about ways to utilize technology and to incorporate global experiences into the classroom.

The McClure Award will cover the full cost of the program fee of approximately $6,500.  The program fee covers: international round-trip airfare, airport taxes, health insurance during the international portion of the program, room accommodations, most meals, ground transportation abroad, and program costs in Germany.  The program fee also includes a pre-trip orientation as well as follow-up costs connected to speakers, facilities, some meals, materials, and an informational handbook.
