This press release is being issued to clarify a 911 call response and prevent inaccurate speculation.

Shortly after noon today (Tuesday, October 10, 2017), several calls were made to school system officials inquiring about emergency vehicles arriving at Bethel Elementary School in Haywood County Schools.

An automated 911 call was initiated after an elementary student pushed a button in an elevator at the school.  No students or staff members were ever in danger.   School remains on a regular schedule.  The school is in the process of completing an investigation of the matter.
