On Friday, January 26, Olympic fever hit Junaluska Elementary School. Since returning from winter break, students and staff have been “passing the torch” in preparation for Junaluska’s Reading Olympics. Each homeroom class held the torch for the day. Two very special guests came Friday morning during the morning announcements to share about their own Olympic experience. Mr. Clyde Manning and his daughter Ms. Sidney McCrory brought lots of memorabilia from the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta. Mr. Manning had the exciting privilege of carrying the torch through downtown Atlanta, as it made it’s way to the Opening Ceremony. He shared his experience with students and let them see the actual torch he carried! They brought pins, medals, and apparel from those games. Students asked great questions about their experience. Junaluska was very excited to have them visit!
