  • At approximately 12:30 p.m. the Canton Middle School campus was cleared.
  • We are very thankful this was not a credible threat.
  • We want to thank everyone who assisted in securing the campus, evacuation procedures, and clearing the building.
  • We could not effectively handle situations like this without our law enforcement and other great emergency response partners.
  • Students and staff are returning to campus.
  • The school has made arrangements to assure students eat lunch.
  • We are shifting from a safety and security response to an investigation that will hopefully identify the perpetrator or perpetrators.
  • We take threats to student and staff very seriously.  We will continue to rely on our staff,  training, and excellent community partners when addressing perceived threats.

Update to the initial information listed below:  (11:42 AM)

  • Students have been safely re-located to the stadium adjacent to the school.
  • The initial sweep of campus is being completed.
  • There are no indications of a credible threat at this time.
  • A second sweep of the campus will begin shortly.
  • School is not dismissed.
  • We will return to a regular schedule when the campus is cleared.
  • Law enforcement has established a perimeter around the location for safety purposes.
  • Parents attempted to pick up students, may experience a delay due to the safety precautions that are in place.

Initial Press Release  (11:14 AM)

• School officials at Canton Middle School learned that a threatening message (bomb threat) was written on a restroom wall at school.
• This threat does not apply to any other schools.
• School and law enforcement officials are working to determine the credibility of the threat.
• For precautionary purposes, students are being moved to another location.
• The evacuation site will be shared with parents as soon as students are safely re-located.
• Law enforcement officials and district administrators are working to assure student and staff safety.
• The school will prepare and send a rapid notification message for students, parents and staff.
• All unauthorized individuals are asked to remain off campus until the campus has been cleared.
• Additional school or school district notifications will follow regarding the status of this event.
• School is not dismissed at this time. If the campus is cleared, students will return to school.
• Parents may pick up students at the re-location area, when it is announced.
