This morning we received several calls informing us that the telephone notification for our two-hour delay did not go out yesterday evening as scheduled.  We are trying to determine why this message was not received.

When making weather related school schedule announcements, we share the information multiple ways.  We post the message on the Haywood County Schools Website, post the message on the school system’s Facebook and Twitter pages, notify four television stations, notify four radio stations, notify two newspapers, and send a parent and employee voice (or text) notification.  The parent and employee voice (or text) notification failed yesterday.  The media outlets usually post the message on their websites or repeat the message over a period of time.

We apologize for this failure and encourage everyone not to rely on one form of notification.  Technology is a great communication tool.  However, it is not perfect.  We encourage everyone to check the Haywood County Schools website, Haywood County Schools social media pages, or other sources listed above if you did not receive a voice or text notification.  Again, we apologize for the failure of the voice (or text) notification.  We will continue to communicate weather related schedule changes through multiple channels in order to reach as many people as possible.
