Beginning Monday, May 4, 2020, classified school employees may opt to work a four-day work-week with the approval of their immediate supervisor.  Classified employees are those paid hourly.  Classified employees, for the purposes of this action, also include individuals who work in a job that does not require a teaching license or school administrative license.

Teachers, principals, system-level administrative employees, and other employees in jobs requiring a NC teaching license, will remain on a five-day work week.  “School facilities are closed,” said Dr. Bill Nolte, Superintendent.  “However, we are still committed to provide remote learning support, food distribution, and other essential services needed to operate our fifteen schools and critical system-level services.”

Classified employees should work their assigned weekly hours if opting for a four-day week or use accumulated leave in order to maintain their normal pay.  Principals, supervisors, and directors have the discretion to schedule specific employee days and/or hours in order to assure essential services are provided.  Employees should check with their immediate supervisor regarding individual questions.
