The Board of Education voted to add four Remote Learning Optional Workdays to the school calendar at the regular Board of Education meeting on December 14, 2020. The action followed discussion at the Board’s December Work Session and regular December Board meeting. The additional Remote Learning Optional Workdays are:

  • Friday, January 29
  • Monday, February 15
  • Monday, March 22
  • Friday, April 23

“The Board of Education members gave a lot of consideration to our recent survey results as well as additional direct feedback,” said Dr. Bill Nolte, Superintendent. “In-person and blended learning are significant for academic and social emotional reasons. At the same time, our Board recognizes our teachers are burning their candles at both ends. An additional Remote Learning Optional Workday each month for the next four months seemed appropriate.”

On Remote Learning Workdays and Remote Learning Optional Workdays students will have instruction and/or assignments. Instructional hours are counted on these days. Since the NC General Assembly required Remote Learning Days for the first time this school year, we provide the following definitions:

  • Remote Learning Workday
    • Students receive direct instruction remotely
    • Teachers and other staff report to campus
  • Remote Learning Optional Workday
    • Students receive “front-loaded” instruction and/or assignments
    • Teachers and other staff have the option to report to campus or take accumulated leave

Inclement weather may cause these days to be swapped with regular instructional days. Please note these changes and share this update with others as appropriate.
