This calendar update follows three closed days earlier this week due to inclement weather.  In addition to schedule changes related to COVID-19, Haywood County Schools has seen several unusual missed days. To date, Haywood County Schools has experienced 13 days that were closed for in-person or remote learning. Five days were missed due to a ransomware attack. One day was missed for flooding in association with Tropical Storm Zeta. One day was missed due to an off-campus fire that interrupted Internet and telephone service. Six days were missed due to inclement winter weather. Our average number of missed days is nine.

Please note the calendar changes listed below and notify students and parents as appropriate.

  • Friday, February 12th is now a full instructional day
  • Monday, February 15th is now a regular school day
  • Wednesday, February 24th is now a Remote Learning Optional Workday
  • Thursday, March 18th is now a full instructional day
  • Friday, March 19th is now a regular school day
  • Friday, April 23rd is now a regular school day

We thank everyone for their patience and understanding as we navigate this most unusual school year that includes six missed days that have nothing to do with weather. Currently, the last student day is Thursday, June 3rd. This is pretty remarkable considering we have missed 13 days. If winter weather continues to cause school closings, it may be necessary to extend student days into the week of June 7th in order to assure we achieve the instructional hours required by the state.

By kind, be smart, be safe and think warm weather.
