On Monday February 7, 2022, the Haywood County School Board approved the 5 + 5 Covid Guidance as presented by the Haywood County Health Department.

School or no school, where did the exposure happen?

School or Community:
Unmasked

Are you?

  • Without symptoms
    AND
  • Up to date on COVID vaccines
    • Age 5-17
      • Completed primary series of COVID vaccines
    • Age 18+
      • Completed primary series PLUS booster
  • Tested positive within 90 days
  • Prepared to test to stay in school

If no, isolate (Days 0-5)

  • Stay home minimum 5 days
  • Test on day 5 after exposure
  • If positive, isolate for 5 full days.  Date of last exposure is DAY ZERO.
  • If negative, keep wearing mask until symptoms are gone

If yes, you are OKAY for school WHEN & IF…

  • NO symptoms (asymptomatic)
  • REQUIRED masking for 10 days after exposure
    • at ALL times, except eating
    • when indoors and during athletics (even outside)
  • Get tested on Day 5 after exposure
  • Those testing to remain in school should test ASAP after exposure and again on Day 5

Masked – You are Good to Go

Are you?

  • Without symptoms
    AND
  • Up to date on COVID vaccines
    • Age 5-17

    Note:  Test to stay in school is NOT an option for anyone with household exposure

    If no, isolate (Days 0-5)

  • If negative, keep wearing mask until symptoms are gone

If yes, you are good to go

  • Keep wearing masks and watching for symptoms.

Already Tested Positive?

OKAY for school WHEN & IF…

  • Days 0-5 of isolation are completed
    • if symptoms remain, they must be improving and fever-free for 24 hours
    • Antigen test on Day 6, return to school if negative
  • NO symptoms (asymptomatic)
  • REQUIRED masking for 10 days after exposure
    • at ALL times, except eating
    • when indoors and during athletics (even outside)

Testing Specifications:

STUDENTS:  The test to exclude from learning may be an antigen (rapid) or a PCR (confirmatory) with a medical provider OR an at home test performed by a caregiver.  The test to return must be an antigen (rapid) with a medical provider OR and at-home test performed by a caregiver.

STAFF:  The test to exclude from work may be an antigen (rapid) or a PCR (confirmatory).  The test to return must be an antigen (rapid).  For staff, both tests (to exclude and to return) must be done by a medical provider.
