Earlier today the state released school performance data for the 2021-22 school year. The newly released 2021-22 data shows that Haywood County Schools is now ranked 7th among 115 school systems in academic performance. This is the highest academic performance ranking in school system history. During the previous school year (2020-21) the school system was ranked 10th. The state issued Performance Composite includes 22 academic indicators from 3rd grade through high school. Academic growth is a measure of how far students progress academically during a school year. In 2018-19 (pre-COVID-19) Haywood County Schools had 7 schools that did not meet growth. During the most recent 2021-22 school year, only 3 schools did not make growth. In 2021-22, 70% of schools in North Carolina met or exceeded growth. In Haywood County Schools, 80% of the schools met or exceeded growth.
“I am so proud of our school system,” said Jill Barker, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. “The data represents the perseverance, strength and heart of our entire school community. COVID-19 did not stop us from the important work of educating our students. Our system has remained intently focused on providing a strong education despite many obstacles. All of our stakeholders are to be commended.”
“The recently released performance data represents our sense of urgency and our high expectations,” said Dr. Bill Nolte, Superintendent. “We tried to make every minute count. We are back within a composite point of our pre-COVID-19 performance. We will provide additional performance highlights at the September Board of Education meeting.”
