The path of Hurricane Ian is still uncertain.  However, current projections predict the storm will pass through Western North Carolina.  The large size and slow movement of the storm increase the possibility of potential damage.  Currently, it appears flooding rainfall and high winds are possible this weekend.  Rain is expected to begin in the middle of the day on Friday and continue into next week.

If in-person learning is cancelled due to inclement weather, we are likely to designate the day as Remote Learning Optional Workday (RLOW) with front-loaded learning for students.  Teachers should prepare appropriately and notify students that a RLOW may be needed Friday or early next week.  Please keep this possibility and practice in mind as we move into the late fall and winter.

The Morning Crew always monitors these situations.  If in-person learning is cancelled, an announcement will be made no later than 5:45 a.m. on the impacted school day.  Any announcements will be made through our rapid notification system and other school system notification processes.  If in doubt, please check multiple sources (HCS website, HCS social media, and local media outlets).
