What should a parent do if he/she has a question about their child’s IEP?

1 – Contact the child’s Exceptional Children’s (EC) Case Manager.
2 – If the parent still has concerns, contact the principal, assistant principal or lead teacher at the child’s school.
3 – If the parent still has concerns, contact the Exceptional Children’s (EC) Lead Teacher – Carla Melton @ 828-456-2400 or cmelton@haywood.k12.nc.us.
4 – If the parent still has concerns, contact the Director of the Exceptional Children’s (EC) Program – Brandi Stephenson @ 828-456-2400 or bstephenson@haywood.k12.nc.us.

From time to time, disagreements between families and schools may occur regarding the development and implementation of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).  It is highly recommended that the following steps be considered in order to resolve differences quickly:
1 – Address at the Classroom Level – First, talk to your child’s teacher about your concerns.
2 – Address at the School Level – Secondly, talk to the principal at your child’s school about your concerns.
3 – Address at the District Level – Lastly, if you still have concerns, contact the Director of the Exceptional Children’s Program
