Social Media Practice and Procedures – Twitter

The purpose of Haywood County Schools (HCS) social media accounts is to increase communication between school and home and provide the community with pertinent news and information regarding our students and schools.  In an effort to maintain consistency across all platforms, schools should use the following guidelines when addressing social media use at your site.

Twitter:

Primary School Accounts:

These accounts will be created by HCS and will use a specific email account designed for this purpose.  Primary school accounts will be shared with one administrator for use outside of the realm of website push notifications.  One administrator can use this access to retweet posts from other organizations or to post directly to twitter.  Accounts should only be assigned to one manager.  Usernames and passwords should not be shared.

School Owned Accounts:

These accounts will be created by HCS or the school, not individuals, and will represent the school and the organization they are highlighting.  Administrators can assign an account manager (teacher) for these accounts, using a district issued email address for the purpose of this account.  The district issued email address will route to the admin and the manager of the account.  Accounts should only be assigned to one manager.  Usernames and passwords should not be shared.

Professional Accounts:

These accounts will be created by the end user and will represent the end user.  Professional accounts represent Haywood County Schools and the school where the end user is employed.  At any time, end users may post news and information regarding clubs, sporting events, etc. as long as they are not directly communicating with individual students.  Professional accounts are the responsibility of the person who created them.  Users must limit posts on this account to information that is of a professional nature and conduct themselves accordingly.

Personal Accounts:

These accounts will be created by the end user and will represent the end user.  Individual accounts do not represent Haywood County Schools or the school where the end user is employed.   Individual accounts are the responsibility of the person who created them.  Direct communication with students is a violation of board policy.  This includes messages posted to your feed as well as private messages.
